MI5 launches Urdu website for Pakistani community
The British intelligence service MI5 announced yesterday it has launched an Urdu version of its website for the British Pakistani community.

The website will be used to recruit new members from ethnic minorities to the security services. It will also explain how visitors can help the MI5 with useful information.
Eliza Manningham-Buller, Director General of the Security Service, said: "To do the best possible job, we need to communicate effectively with the whole community. We have launched Arabic and now Urdu versions of our website to reach particularly important audiences; members of the Muslim community make a vital contribution to countering the terrorist threat.
"Given that most of the Security Service's work is done in secret, there is always potential for misunderstanding or misrepresentation of our work. By communicating directly with the public through our website, we hope to debunk a few myths."
She added: "The Urdu version of the site is an important step forward and I am very pleased to announce its launch."
The Urdu language version accompanies an Arabic site that was launched in April 2004. Additional language services of the MI5 website are also planned, though the organisation declined to expand on who they might be for.
The MI5 makes it clear it wants to recruit people from different ethnic minority communities. In particular it is keen to talk to people who speak Sorani, Arabic, north African Arabic, Urdu, Gujrati, Bengali, Fujianese, Tamil, Turkish, Farsi and Pashtu.
Some help guides have been earmarked to be translated into Hindi.
